| Abstract: | Diplomová práca má za úlohu charakterizovať vývojové trendy urbanizácie v Indii od jej nezávislosti v roku 1947 až do súčanosti, popísať prístupy k nej a zhodnotiť jej udržateľnosť. Práca je rozdelená na 4 hlavné kapitoly. Prvá kapitola sa zaoberá dvomi vybranými urbanizačnými teóriami a to teóriou štádií vývoja miest a diferenciálnou urbanizáciou. Druhá kapitola mapuje vývoj indickej urbanizácie, zaoberá sa trendami a determinantmi vývoja a predstavuje možný budúci vývoj urbanizácie v Indii. Tretia kapitola je venovaná vládnym prístupom, ktoré hodnotí na základe päťročných plánov a vládnych reforiem a programov. Časť tejto kapitoly sa venuje konkrétnej iniciatíve Smart Cities a nakoniec hodnotí udržateľnosť a popisuje problémy s ňou spojené. Posledná kapitola predstavuje mesto Chennai, predstavuje jeho urbanizačné trendy a hodnotí jeho udržateľnosť. |

| Abstract: | The aim of the diploma thesis is to characterise the development trends of urbanization in India from its independence in 1947 until present, to describe approaches to it and to evaluate its sustainability. The thesis is divided into 4 main chapters. The first chapter introduces two selected urbanization theories, namely the theory of urban development and differential urbanization. The second chapter maps the development of Indian urbanization, defines the trends and determinants of development and presents the possible future development of urbanization in India. The third chapter is devoted to the government's approach, which is based five-year plans and government reforms and programs. Part of this chapter deals with a specific Smart Cities initiative and finally assesses sustainability and describes the problems associated with it. The last chapter introduces the city of Chennai, presents its urbanization trends and assesses its sustainability. |
