Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis examines the concept of soft power in the context of contemporary international relations and its application in the case of South Korea. Particular attention is paid to K-pop as a significant instrument of cultural diplomacy and nation branding. The thesis first outlines the theoretical foundations of soft power, including its sources, tools, and relationship to related concepts such as public diplomacy and nation branding. It then focuses on the institutional and strategic framework of South Korea’s soft power, characterized by a high level of coordination between the state, the private sector, and other actors. The study demonstrates that K-pop represents not only a cultural phenomenon but also a systematically employed means of international engagement, with impacts on both the country’s global image and its economic performance. At the same time, the limitations of this model are addressed, particularly in terms of its measurability and long-term sustainability.
