Post-conflict reconstruction of Ukraine: international mechanisms and their impact on the perspective of relations for relations with the European Union

This bachelor’s thesis examines the post-conflict reconstruction of Ukraine and analyzes the extent to which the implementation of international support mechanisms influences the prospects for the further development of Ukraine’s relations with the European Union. The thesis adopts a qualitative research approach and is based on an analysis of official documents, political and legal acts, and strategic materials from key international actors. The analytical framework is structured around three dimensions (political, economic, and social), supplemented by the Copenhagen Criteria for European Union candidate countries. The analysis showed that international reconstruction mechanisms, particularly the Ukraine Facility and the follow-up Ukraine Plan 2024-2027, link Ukraine’s recovery to reforms in the areas of the rule of law, public administration, the fight against corruption, and macroeconomic stabilization. In the economic dimension, they contribute to economic convergence with the EU through macro-financial assistance, trade liberalization, and investment frameworks. In the social dimension, they support participation, inclusion, and the protection of vulnerable groups. The study concludes that Ukraine’s reconstruction serves not merely as a tool for short-term stabilization, but as a process of gradual political, economic, and social convergence with the European Union. At the same time, the study identifies the limitations of this model, particularly the strain on the state’s reform capacity, the system’s coordination challenges, and the imbalance among the various dimensions.
