Innovativeness of the Kingdom of Norway

This bachelor’s thesis examines the level of innovation in the Kingdom of Norway and identifies the main factors influencing it. The aim of the thesis is to assess Norway’s position in international comparisons and to explain why it has consistently ranked behind other Scandinavian countries in innovation rankings. The analysis includes an examination of the role of institutions, government support, and the business environment. The thesis is based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative part is based on an analysis of international indicators, such as the Global Innovation Index and the European Innovation Scoreboard, and data from international institutions. The qualitative part is based on an analysis of academic literature, government documents, and an interview with the Norwegian Ambassador to the Czech Republic. The results show that although Norway has high-quality institutions, a high standard of living, and a stable economic environment, its innovation performance is influenced primarily by the structure of its economy and its historical dependence on natural resources. At the same time, the thesis emphasises the importance of government support, the business environment, and cooperation between the public and private sectors for the development of innovation.
