Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate whether the first issuance of a labelled green bond changes the operating performance and market valuation of European corporate issuers. A staggered difference-in-differences design is estimated on an annual panel of 457 European bond-issuing firms observed from 2014 to 2024, of which 108 issue at least one green bond across ten cohorts. Issuance is followed by a fall in return on assets of 2.5 to 2.7 percentage points under the control set used throughout, significant at the five percent level. When the firm controls are omitted or fixed before treatment, the fall in return on assets is 1.5 to 1.8 percentage points, where it is significant at ten percent. The results do not show any significant effect on return on equity or on Tobin's Q. Pre-treatment coefficients are jointly indistinguishable from zero (p = 0.977) and randomisation inference places the effect at p = 0.006. Romano–Wolf correction across the three outcomes leaves it significant at p = 0.018. The sectoral hypothesis is rejected, while an unpredicted concentration among Nordic issuers is supported at the ten percent level. Decomposing the accounts locates the decline above the operating line. EBITDA per unit of assets falls by 1.84 percentage points while interest, depreciation and tax contribute nothing, and the amount raised is unrelated to the effect. Issuance coincides with a debt-funded expansion of the balance sheet that is not a capital-expenditure programme.

Abstract:
EBITDA na jednotku aktiv klesá o 1,84 procentního bodu, zatímco úroky, odpisy a daně nic nepřispívají a množství vybraných prostředků není s efektem spojeno. Emise souzní s expanzí rozvahy financovanou dluhem, která není výsledkem investičního programu.
