Abstrakt:
Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na neoformalistickou analýzu filmu Fallen Angels (1995) režiséra Wong Kar-waie a na ověření toho, jakým způsobem mohou stylistické prostředky zprostředkovávat narativní a významové obsahy. Práce je rozdělena do několika částí. Metodologická část vymezuje základní pojmy a analytické nástroje neoformalistického přístupu s detailním zaměřením na stylistické prostředky. Kontextová část zasazuje film do hongkongské nové vlny, režisérovy tvorby a tehdejšího geopolitického klimatu. Analytická část následně zkoumá narativní, stylistickou a tematickou výstavbu filmu ve vztahu k dominantnímu principu, jenž byl identifikován a formulován jako “hledání komfortu v pomíjivé ambivalentní koexistenci jakožto kolektivně sdílený projev neautenticity”. Cílem analytické části bylo prokázat funkčnost dominanty jako řídícího principu díla a zjistit, jakými prostředky film utváří diváckou zkušenost a zprostředkovává význam. Součástí práce je také výzkumná část zaměřená na diváckou interpretaci vybraných stylistických prostředků mimo kontext děje, jejímž cílem bylo zjistit, zda jejich významotvorná funkce přetrvává i v absenci souvislého narativního kontextu. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že respondenti byli i při absenci souvislého děje schopni rozpoznávat dílčí vztahové a významové souvislosti mezi postavami. Jako nejvýraznější nositelé těchto obsahů se projevily především paralelní střihová skladba, opakování prostředí a inscenace postav.

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on a neoformalist analysis of Wong Kar-wai’s film Fallen Angels (1995) and examines the ways in which stylistic devices can convey narrative and thematic content. The thesis is divided into several parts. The methodological section defines the key concepts and analytical tools of the neoformalist approach, with a detailed focus on stylistic devices. The contextual section situates the film within the Hong Kong New Wave, Wong Kar-wai’s broader filmography, and the geopolitical climate of the period. The analytical section then examines the film’s narrative, stylistic, and thematic construction in relation to its dominant principle, which has been identified and formulated as the search for comfort in fleeting ambivalent coexistence as a collectively shared expression of inauthenticity. The aim of the analytical section is to demonstrate the function of the dominant as the governing principle of the work and to determine through which means the film shapes the viewer’s experience and conveys meaning. The thesis also includes a research section focused on viewers’ interpretation of selected stylistic devices outside the context of the plot, with the aim of determining whether their meaning-making function persists even in the absence of a coherent narrative context. The research results showed that even in the absence of a coherent plot, respondents were able to identify partial relational and meaning-based connections between the characters. The most significant carriers of these contents were parallel editing, the repetition of setting, and the staging of characters.
