The main topic of this thesis is nation branding, a current trend in the field of public diplomacy, executed by the states and the state stakeholders. This trend, which encompasses the creation of a specific brand, is analysed using the example of India, the second most populated country in the world, in its endeavor to change the perception that the outside world has of it. In the past, India was presented as a secular country established on the high moral principles of its founding fathers. The most prominent ambassador of India’s public diplomacy is the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a significant personality connected with dynamic and modern reforms and with religious pluralism and controversial nationalism. It seems his effort is to present India in the world as a huge market economy with a strong technological background rooted into the principles of Hinduism.Therefore this thesis analyses the direct influence of Narendra Modi on India‘s nation branding and describes the current nation brands of India.
