Benchmarking muzeí zřizovaných městy a obcemi ve Středočeském kraji

The master’s thesis addresses the issues of museums and benchmarking. It aims to compare the efficiency of museums in the Central Bohemia Region that operate under towns and villages as public benefit organizations. The method used to compare the efficiency of a selected sample of museums is a comparative analysis and Data Envelopment Analysis. The theoretical part of the thesis contains theoretical facts necessary to understand and conduct the practical part. The theoretical part, at first, describes the general issue of the museum studies along with an outline of the legislative framework and current situation of museums in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, it explains the concept of benchmarking, impacts created by the operation of museums, measurement of performance and the tools to measure it. In the practical part, a selected sample of museums is benchmarked – it describes a set of indicators, performs a comparative analysis and, subsequently, analyses the data based on the performed Data Envelopment Analysis. The objective of the thesis is to provide an image of the level of and difference between the efficiency of museums operating in the Central Bohemia Region and, subsequently, to offer them this thesis as a possible source of information on their operation.
