Divadlo F. X. Šaldy a jeho role v kulturním životě Liberce

The thesis examines the position of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in the cultural sphere in the city of Liberec. The purpose of the thesis is to identify its shortcomings and to familiarize the theatre with possibilities of improvement. The thesis deals with the position of the theatre in comparison with other cultural institutions in terms of attendance. The theoretical part is devoted to the history of theatre in Liberec, especially the history of the F. X. Šalda. This part confirms the long tradition of the theatre and its importance for Liberec city. In the practical part, a chapter is devoted to the analysis of the theatre such as its financing, attendance, activities of the theatre, analysis of ticket prices and the possibility of subscriptions. A part of the thesis is also devoted to the way the theatre communicates with the general public. It also focuses on the cultural life in Liberec and its other cultural institutions such as the Naive Theatre, the Warsaw Cinema, the Regional Gallery in Liberec, the Regional Scientific Library in Liberec and the Lidové sady. It compares these institutions with the theatre on the basis of attendance. The practical part is concluded with a questionnaire survey among theatre-goers, which examines precisely the position of theatre in culture in Liberec, its shortcomings and the communication of the theatre with the general public. The work is supplemented by a short interview with the economic deputy Ing. Lucie Nejedlova.
