Abstrakt:
Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá, jak se měnil přístup USA k Antarktidě v souvislosti se střídáním jednotlivých prezidentských administrativ. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, jak politická příslušnost čtyř amerických prezidentů (Eisenhower, Bush, Clinton a Biden) ovlivnila jejich vnímání Antarktické smlouvy. Práce propojuje teorii mezinárodních režimů s vlivem jednotlivce na zahraniční politiku. Pomocí analýzy projevů a dokumentů práce porovnává, zda se prezidenti soustředili spíše na mocenské zájmy, nebo na mezinárodní spolupráci a ochranu přírody. Výsledky ukazují, že zatímco republikánští prezidenti vnímali Antarktidu spíše jako strategické území, demokraté kladou větší důraz na vědu a globální klimatické změny. Práce tak potvrzuje, že osobnost a strana prezidenta hrají v mezinárodní politice klíčovou roli.

Abstrakt:
This bachelor's thesis examines how the US approach to Antarctica has changed in connection with the succession of individual presidential administrations. The main goal is to determine how the political affiliation of four American presidents (Eisenhower, Bush, Clinton and Biden) influenced their perception of the Antarctic Treaty. The thesis connects the theory of international regimes with the influence of an individual on foreign policy. Using the analysis of speeches and documents, the thesis compares whether the presidents focused more on power interests or on international cooperation and nature conservation. The results show that while Republican presidents perceived Antarctica more as a strategic territory, Democrats place greater emphasis on science and global climate change. The thesis confirms that the personality and party of the president play a key role in international politics.
