Analysis of employment among people aged 55 and older in Prague and the Ústí nad Labem Region in years 2014-2024

This bachelor’s thesis examines the employment of people aged 55 and older in Prague and the Ústí nad Labem Region in the years 2014 to 2024. The aim is to analyse employment trends among this age group and identify regional differences between the regions under study. The issue of employment among older workers is gaining significance, particularly in connection with the demographic ageing of the population, which poses a major challenge to the sustainability of the pension system and public finances. The theoretical section defines basic concepts related to the labour market, population aging, and economic and policy approaches to the employment of older adults. The practical section first characterizes the region under study and then analyses employment trends in terms of absolute values, growth indices, and employment rates. The study also includes a regression analysis of selected factors influencing employment among the target age group. The results confirm a growing trend in employment among people aged 55-64 in both regions, with this trend being more dynamic in the Ústí Region. At the same time, a statistically significant relationship was demonstrated between the employment rate and the average wage and the general unemployment rate, while a nonlinear relationship was identified with the average old-age pension. The influence of life expectancy was not confirmed as a statistically significant factor.
