| Abstract: | Když byly Daytonské mírové dohody podepsány v roce 1995, Brčko patřilo do nejvíce válkou zničených oblastí Bosny a Hercegoviny. Carl Blidt, tehdejší vysoký představitel pro Bosnu a Hercegovinu, popsal Brčko jako místo, kde nastal konec světa. V roce 2009, jsou jizvy po válce v Brčku na první pohled málo viditelné. Poškozené a zničené budovy byly z velké části opraveny nebo přestavěny, ve městě vládne uvolněná atmosféra a jsou viditelné znaky ekonomického rozvoje. Ve svých desiti letech existence, přes všechny politické a ekonomické potíže, toto uspořádání se ukázalo funkčním jako oaza liberální demokracie ve státu ve kterém pořád soupeří různé etnické skupiny. Koncepce liberální demokracie, na příkladu Distriktu Brčko, se realizovala ve formě multitenické společnosti, ve které bylo zavedeno multientické školství, soudnictví a policie. |

| Abstract: | When the Dayton Peace Agreement were signed in 1995, Brcko was one of the most war-torn areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Carl Blidt, former High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, described Brčko as the place where the world has come to an end. In 2009, the scars of war in Brcko, are not visible at first sight. Damaged and destroyed buildings were largely repaired or rebuilt, the city has a relaxed atmosphere and there are visible signs of economic development. In its ten years of existence, despite all the political and economic difficulties, this political model has proved to be successful as an oasis of liberal democracy in the country which still faces conflicts between various ethnic groups. The concept of liberal democracy, in the example of Brcko District, has come to existence in the form of multi-ethnic society, including multiethnic education, judiciary and police. |
