| Abstract: | Dobrovolné zapojení občanů do formálních organizací je považováno za důležitý ukazatel fungující občanské společnosti a je také jedním z předpokladů fungující demokracie. Ve své diplomové práci dokazuji, že část rozdílů mezi zeměmi v tomto ukazateli lze vysvětlit pomocí obecných charakteristik jednotlivých národních kultur. Tyto charakteristiky přehledně popsal a vymezil Geert Hofstede, jehož kulturní dimenze v této práci využívám. Především byl prokázán vztah mezi počtem organizací, v kterých se jedinec angažuje, a dimenzí Vyhýbání se nejistotě. Práce mimo jiné přispívá k pochopení motivací pro zapojení se do formálních organizací. Protože se prokázalo, že angažovanost významně souvisí s kulturou národa (zejména s dimenzí Vyhýbání se nejistotě), je zřejmé, že ke změně v aktivitě občanů může dojít jen velmi pomalu a rozdíly mezi národy pravděpodobně zůstanou zachovány. |

| Abstract: | Voluntary participation of citizens in formal organizations is considered an important indicator of an efficient civic society. It is also one of the assumptions of functional democratic regime. In this diploma thesis, I explain the differences between countries in civic involvement with general characteristics of national cultures. These characteristics were clearly described and defined by Geert Hofstede. I use his dimensions in this paper. The paper should contribute to understanding the motivations for engaging in formal organizations. As it proves that commitment is significantly related to the culture of the nation (especially to the cultural dimension Uncertainty Avoidance), it is clear that the change in the activity of citizens can be very slow and the differences between nations are likely to remain. |
