| Abstract: | Lotyšsko je tradiční emigrační zemí. Během posledního desetiletí se navíc odehrály skutečnosti, které významně ovlivnily migrační toky z Lotyšska. Byl to především vstup do Evropské unie v roce 2004 a propuknutí světové finanční krize, která se v Lotyšsku začala naplno projevovat v roce 2008. V této práci zjišťuji na základě dostupných zdrojů, jak velký je pro Lotyšsko problém emigrace a pomocí korelační analýzy zkoumám, jaké faktory působí na emigraci. Ukázalo se, že existuje velmi silná závislost mezi růstem HDP a emigrací i mezi mírou nezaměstnanosti a emigrací. Závislost druhého vztahu se zvětšuje po příchodu ekonomické recese. Zatímco v období ekonomického růstu byla emigrace ovlivňována růstem HDP, v krizi se Lotyši rozhodují spíše podle nezaměstnanosti. Dále se ukázalo, že oficiální lotyšské údaje o emigraci jsou velmi podhodnocené a lotyšský problém je tak mnohem větší, než se zdá. |

| Abstract: | Latvia is a traditional emigration country. There were some events during the last decade that significantly influenced emigration flows from Latvia. In 2004 Latvia joined the European Union and in 2008 there was a burst of the global financial crisis. In this paper I examine how important the issue of emigration is for Latvia. Using correlation analysis I determine the factors that influence emigration. It appeared that there is a very strong dependence between the growth of GDP and emigration and also between the rate of unemployment and emigration. The dependence of the latter increased after the economic recession. In the period of economic growth the emigration was influenced mainly by the growth of GDP, but during the crisis Latvians tend to make their decisions based on the rate of unemployment. During my research I also found out that the Latvian official data on emigration are highly underestimated. It means that the problem of emigration in Latvia is much bigger than it seems. |
