| Abstract: | Od zisku samostatnosti v roce 1963 byla Keňa považována za demokratickou a bezproblémovou zemi, přestože až do roku 2002 se v jejím čele vystřídali pouze dva prezidenti. Proces transformace k demokracii a s ním zlepšování stavu lidských práv v zemi započal v roce 1991 a téměř dvacet let trvalo, než se země dokázala zbavit koloniálních pozůstatků ve své legislativě. Porušování lidských práv, jež vrcholilo za vlády druhého prezidenta, upoutalo během devadesátých let pozornost zahraničních sítí aktivistů i mezinárodní donorů a situace se začala díky vnějším i vnitřním tlakům zlepšovat. Za největší úspěch obhájců lidských práv pak lze považovat referendem schválenou Ústavu ze srpna 2010. |

| Abstract: | Since its independence in 1963 Kenya has been considered a democratic and non-problematic country, although it had been ruled just by two different presidents until 2002. The transformation to democracy proces followed by improvement of human rights started in 1991 and it took almost twenty years to get rid of some colonial remains in Kenya's legislation. Human rights abuses which peaked during the rule of the second president of Kenya caught attention of international activists and donors during 1990s and due to pressure from inside and outside the situation has began to ameliorate. The adoption of the new Constitution in August 2010 may be considered the biggest success of human rights defenders in the country. |
