| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce se zabývá perspektivami členství Islandu v Evropské unii po hluboké systemické finanční krizi, která zemi zasáhla v druhé polovině roku 2008. Následující léto islandská vláda podala poprvé v historii přihlášku do Evropské unie. Island je však znám jako země dlouhodobě odmítající politickou integraci se zeměmi kontinentální Evropy, bránící si svou nezávislost a omezující svou zahraniční politiku na obchodní styky. Práce si klade dva hlavní cíle. Zaprvé se pokusí odpovědět na otázku, zda Island nakonec do EU vstoupí či nikoliv. Konečné slovo totiž budou mít při ratifikaci přístupové smlouvy v národním referendu samotní občané. Druhým cílem je snaha zhodnotit výhody a nevýhody přijetí eura pro Island, neboť to byl jeden ze stěžejních argumentů pro-evropsky nakloněných Islanďanů. |

| Abstract: | The thesis deals with the prospects of Iceland's potential membership of the European Union after a deep systemic financial crisis that hit the country in the second half of 2008. Next summer, Icelandic government applied for a first time in history for a membership of the EU. However, Iceland was for a long time known as a country denying any political integration with other European countries, defending its neutrality and restricting its foreign policy to business ties. The thesis has two main goals. The first one is to try to answer the question whether Iceland will actually join the Union or not. The final decision will be in hands of Icelandic citizens because they have to ratify the accession treaty in a national referendum. The second goal is to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of adopting the euro currency for Iceland as this was one of the main arguments of pro-European Icelanders. |
