| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o postavení železniční dopravy ve světové ekonomice. V práci je popsána a analyzována světová situace v železniční dopravě v porovnání s ostatními druhy dopravy. Posuzuje jak hlavní nevýhody a důvody stagnace železnice, tak i její důležité komparativní výhody. Dále poskytuje rozbor vývoje osobní a nákladní železniční dopravy ve vybraných státech se zaměřením na vysokorychlostní železniční dopravu a predikuje, jakým směrem se tento druh dopravy bude dále ubírat. |

| Abstract: | This thesis deals with rail transport and its position in the global economy. It contains a description and an analysis of the world situation of the railway sector in comparison with other means of transport. Furthermore, not only assesses it main disadvantages and causes of stagnation but it also shows its vital comparative advantages. It also provides an analysis of the development of both passenger and freight rail services with a focus on high- speed rail in selected countries. Finally, the thesis predicts future trends in rail transport. |
