What are the determinants of ratio of free riders in public transportation?

| Abstract: | Ve své práci se věnuji odhalováním determinantů procenta černých pasažérů v MHD. Pracuji s panelovými daty za 11 let ve 4 různých městech. Z mých modelů vyplývá, že 1% zvýšení ceny lístku je spojeno s 0,15% přírůstkem podílu černých pasažérů. Naopak 1% zvýšení pokuty je spojeno s poklesem podílu černých pasažérů o 0,25 %. Přesto, že druhé dva předpokládané determinanty -- mzda a počet revizorů -- nevycházejí jako statisticky významné, přisuzuji to především malému vzorku dat a předpokládám, že tyto dvě proměnné jsou také důležitými faktory ovlivňující podíl černých pasažérů. |

| Abstract: | This paper presents a model that examines determinants of ratio of free riders in public transportation in the Czech Republic. The dataset consists of annual data from four cities over the time period of 11 years. The results show that 1% rise in the price of the ticket leads to 0,15% rise in the ratio of free riders. Also 1% rise in the leads to 0,25% decrease in the ratio of free riders. Despite the fact that the other two assumed determinants -- wage and the number of ticket inspectors -- are not statistically significant, I suppose it is mainly because of the short time period I am working with and I assume that those two variables are also important factors affecting ratio of free riders in public transportation. |
