| Abstract: | Vnímání Brazílie na mezinárodním poli se v minulých letech výrazně změnilo a tato země přitahuje čím dál větší pozornost. Klíčová role hlavy státu v prezidentském politickém systému se odráží ve všech vládních agendách včetně zahraniční. Od 90. let 20. století roste osobní a aktivní účast prezidenta také v politice zahraniční, která bývala tradičně ovládána Ministerstvem zahraničních věcí. Cílem této diplomové práce je analyzovat na příkladech Luly da Silvy a Dilmy Rousseffové současnou roli brazilského prezidenta na tomto poli a využít příznivou situaci, kdy byl poprvé v historii Brazílie zvolen kandidát navržený svým předchůdcem. I proto může práce ve studovaném období (říjen 2002 až prosinec 2012) abstrahovat od třech hladin analýzy zahraniční politiky, které považuje za nezměněné konstanty, přičemž jediným uvažovaným faktorem ovlivňujícím zahraniční politiku je změna na hladině jednotlivce. Jádrem práce je srovnání osobností prezidentů a jejich zahraničněpolitické aktivity, která je sledována ve třech dimenzích: zahraniční cesty a zvaní návštěv do země, způsob zasahování do řešení zahraničněpolitických krizí a vlastní iniciativy týkající se nově zdůrazněných regionů a témat. |

| Abstract: | In recent years, the perception of Brazil in the international arena has changed significantly and the country attracts more and more attention. The key role of the head of state in a presidential political system is reflected in all government agendas, including the foreign policy. Since the 1990s, the Presidents have started to participate more actively in foreign policy decision process, which had been traditionally dominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the examples of Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff and qualify the role of contemporary Brazilian President in foreign policy, and to benefit from the favourable situation when, for the first time in the history of Brazil, the elected candidate was nominated by his predecessor. Therefore it is possible to abstract in the study period (October 2002 to December 2012) from three levels of foreign policy analysis that are considered constant, and so the only factor influencing foreign policy would be a change in the level of the individual. The core is to compare the personalities of presidents and their foreign policy activities which are studied in three dimensions: foreign travel and foreign visits to the country, way of intervening in resolving the crisis and its own foreign policy initiatives in newly highlighted regions and themes. |
