Are students of the Faculty of Economics more rationally selfish than other students of the University of Economics?

| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá otázkou, zda se studenti Národohospodářské fakulty chovají racionálně sobečtěji, než studenti ostatních fakult Vysoké školy ekonomické. Konkrétní výzkumnou metodou je zde ultimativní hra a jejím doplňkem je hra diktátorská. Dataset testuji pomocí regresní a deskriptivní analýzy. Podle souhrnných výsledků lze usuzovat, že studenti NF jsou odlišní, nicméně rozdíly nejsou natolik významné, aby potvrdily hypotézu o racionálně sobeckých sklonech. Nejvíce se mezi 160 účastníky experimentu objevilo osob, které dělily celkovou částku 200 korun rovnostářsky. Závěry srovnání bakalářského a magisterského stupně studia na NF také nasvědčují spíše působení modelu selekce, než modelu učení. |

| Abstract: | The purpose of this thesis is to explore the question whether students of the Faculty of Economics are more rationally selfish than students of other faculties of the University of Economics. The specific research method that was used is the ultimatum game with the dictator game as a supplement. I applied regression and descriptive analysis to my dataset. According to the overall results, one could deduce that students of the Faculty of Economics are indeed different; however, these results are not significant enough to confirm the selfish-tendency hypothesis. Egalitarians who divided the 200 Czech crowns stake equally were the most frequent group among the 160 participants of the experiment. Results of the comparison between undergraduate and graduate students of the Faculty of Economics also imply that the self-selection hypothesis can be considered more relevant than the learning hypothesis in this case. |
