Information on the internet as a public service

The diploma thesis deals with activities of public service media on the Internet and their development in this environment.This diploma thesis aims to compare the distribution of information through public service media in the past, how the rules were set, how opinions about their functioning before the massive expansion of the Internet were changed, and what are the assumptions for changing the legislation in this sector into the future.The paper contains four chapters. The first focuses on the impact of information and the main differences between the information and industrial society. The second explains the communication process and the variables that affect it. The third chapter deals especially with mass media, their history, influence and regulations. The meaning of public service media is explained, as well as their funding, their status in the Czech Republic and their position in the Internet environment.The fourth chapter covers research. The author, through a questionnaire survey, examines how society perceives public service and the internet and whether there are differences in the perception between general public and professional public. Through controlled interviews with professionals, reality is interpreted more deeply based on their opinions and experiences.The partial results of both parts of the research are confronted and shown in context. On this basis, the results of the research are outlined and recommendations are suggested, which can be considered as an incentive to improve the partial activities of public service media. Beyond the current legislation, it is suggested how the industry should move towards the future.
