Representative Economic Determinants of Scottish Separatism

This Bachelor thesis, an in-depth case study, is discussing the problematics of Scottish separatist tendencies as a threat to the world economic stability, for separatism as a process of destabilization could lead to the disintegration of the UK, one of the biggest world economies. Although the thesis follows on from cultural, political and historical background of Scottish separatism, it mainly focuses on description and analysis of representative economic determinants. One of the determinants is welfare state and the thesis uses comparison of public sector expenditure in England and Scotland to describe it. Beside the description of welfare state, the thesis evaluates the amount of natural gas and crude oil reserves and estimates possible future incomes gained by production of oil and gas in Scotland. Last but not least, the thesis elaborates on the trade-economic model using exports and FDI to identify the extent of relevant trade connection between Scotland and UK. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the influence of representative economic determinants on Scottish separatist tendencies. To conclude, it was found out that the representative economic determinants overall do not contribute to the Scottish separatist tendencies as there is no significant economic benefit stemming from them.
