Abstract: | The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the use of interest rate caps as a tool for consumer protection in the credit market in the context of persistent asymmetric information. Globally, household indebtedness is on the rise and consumer protection on the credit market is becoming an increasingly topical issue. The application of interest rate ceilings has many side effects which deepen the asymmetric information and may have a negative impact on the stability of the financial system. This thesis deals with qualitative analysis of these side effects. Due to the side effects, interest rate caps were found to be an ineffective tool for consumer protection in the credit market. Furthermore, a regression model is constructed to reject the tested hypothethis H0 that interest rate caps have an effect on household indebtedness. |
