Abstract: | 70. a 80. léta jsou známa především díky období tzv. |

Abstract: | 1970s and 1980s are well known primarily thanks to the period of „The Great Inflation“, which critically impacted the economic development of the United States of America and dealing with which was very economically and politically challenging. The theoretical section of the thesis describes the economic and monetary situation in the 1970s, points out the possible effect of the oil shocks and monetary policy on macroeconomic aggregates and presents the difficult starting point for the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker. The practical section of the thesis contains an analysis of the selected price indexes in the context of the second oil shock and shows them being considerably affected by it and, later on, by chairman Volcker’s monetary policy as well. It also makes a connection between the policymaking of chairman Volcker in the former half of the 1980s and the rapidly rising price indexes, which became a key factor in it. Based on this, it presents an opinion that the second oil shock had a considerable effect on the monetary policky of the Federal Reserve system in the aforementioned period. |
