Abstract: | This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of the term premium from the long-term government bonds in the dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model from Rudebusch and Swanson (2012), which is extended by the mechanism of adaptive learning in order to improve the empirical performance of the model with a lower coefficient of relative risk aversion. The theoretical section introduces the concept of adaptive learning and the algorithm of recursive least-squares, which forms the adaptive learning in the extended model. Furthermore, the theoretical section focuses on the term premium and its impact on macroeconomic variables. In the application part of the thesis, the extension of the original Rudebusch and Swanson (2012) model has been developed, based on the adaptive learning mechanism developed by Slobodyan and Wouters (2012). The first outcomes of the thesis are the impulse-response functions of the extended model for technological, monetary, and fiscal policy shocks. The second outcome of the thesis is the analysis of simulated statistical moments of selected macroeconomic and financial variables. Based on this analysis, it has been found that the extension of the model does not lead to the desired improvement. |
