Abstract: | This bachelor thesis deals with the impact of the first oil shock on motoring and the automotive industry in the United States of America. The theoretical part describes motoring and the automotive industry since the end of the First World War until the beginning of the oil crisis. Then follows an outline of the first oil crisis and its implications for the economy of the United States of America. The practical part analyzes and compares the data on market shares of individual car makers, consumption of fuel and the impact of state regulation on manufacturers and, subsequently, on consumers. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the impact of the first oil shock on American consumers vis-a-vis domestic automakers. The results of the analyses show that the first oil shock significantly influenced consumer behavior towards domestic automakers, especially in the long run. |
