Tools and methodology used in an evaluation process of ERP system reimplementation

This diploma thesis deals with the description of auxiliary tools and used methodologies in the project of re-implementation of ERP system in Skanska a.s. The primary objective is to describe extensive preparations in connection with the ongoing tender for suppliers, including their up-to-date progress, and to identify potential shortcomings. The secondary objective is to thoroughly evaluate the received proposals (by contents and functionalities) according to a predetermined evaluation methodology and to assess their suitability for determining the winners or qualifiers, respectively. The internal strategy of the company is taken into account in the evaluation processes. This thesis is divided into two main parts – theoretical and practical. The theoretical part describes the principles and standards of evaluation of the tender procedure, with the placement in the IT department environment. It also describes changeover in an organization and best practices for determining the ranking of candidates. The practical part consists of two sections. The first one contains a description of Skanska’s corporate strategy and an explanation of the current ERP solution. The second section is considered as the core of the work and describes the entire selection process, including used tools, methodologies, and pitfalls that occurred during the project. Furthermore, each of the received proposals, offered by interested tenderers, is analyzed based on predefined criteria in this section. The contribution of this thesis lies primarily in a description of the administration and communication related procedures within the process of evaluation of the tender procedure for a new ERP system as well as in the identification of newly-emerged deficiencies. Elimination and prevention of such deficiencies can help to ensure a smoother running of similar tenders in the future.
