Principles and Procedures for Dashboard Creation and Their Application in Self Service BI

This thesis focuses on data visualization through dashboards and especially on the principles and procedures for their creation. The main goal of this thesis is to create dashboards for campaign support in an insurance company using the recommended principles.The author defines what dashboard is and summarizes its features. Furthermore, the author also lists the most commonly used types of dashboards, presents their different uses and typical users of each type of dashboard. Subsequently, the author describes the recommended principles for creating dashboards, related to the creation process, the choice of dashboard content, possibilities of data visualization, dashboard arrangement and the color design used.Using the recommended principles and procedures, the author creates a solution for the area of insurance company campaigns. Campaigns are one of the ways to support the company's business. First, the author designs and creates a Self Service Business Intelligence application in Power BI environment using multidimensional modeling and calculations in the DAX language. SSBI application outputs are presented through dashboards. These dashboards are designed for all levels of management and their aim is to inform to which extent are the expected campaign targets met. The campaign support solution designed in this way fully meets user requirements and is more flexible, understandable and user-friendly than the solution currently in place.
