Abstract: | The thesis explores migration to the United States in the early history of the country and contemporary migration patterns. The theories analyze the motives that push one to migrate from one country to another. By analyzing several international migration theories, the paper studies the approaches taken by former president of the United States, Barack Obama, and current President Donald Trump. The two administrations had a distinct stance on immigration which is reflected in their policies on immigration. In addition, the thesis covers the theory of lobbying and the influence it has in shaping immigration policies in the United States, as well as the migrant groups affected by the policies. |
