Abstract: | Cílem této diplomové práce je pomocí gravitačního modelu migrace zodpovědět výzkumnou otázku, a to kvantifikovat reakci migračních toků na změny základních makroekonomických identit určujících intenzitu migrace v prostoru Evropské unie a Spojených států amerických. Výsledky regresní analýzy dále zodpověděly klíčovou výzkumnou otázku, a to jakým způsobem se liší vlivy klíčových determinantů migrace v rámci těchto dvou prostorů. |

Abstract: | The aim of this diploma thesis is to answer the research question regarding the quantification of migration flows responses to changes in basic macroeconomic identities, which determine the intensity of migration in the European Union and the United States of America using the gravity model of migration. The hypothesis assuming higher power of migration flows in the USA was confirmed. It was quantified that the level of migration in the EU is 20.8 % compared to the level of migration in the USA. The outcomes of regression analysis further answered the key research question in which ways the influences of key determinants of migration differ in these two areas. It was discovered that migratory flows in the EU are more sensitive in their reaction to macroeconomic factors, such as differences in GDP per capita in purchasing power parity and the unemployment rate in the country of origin and target destination. The dataset followed the bilateral migration flows in the period between years 2007 and 2017. According to available sources, this is the first analytical study that compares these two areas within the same time span utilizing the same specification of the gravity model of migration. This approach has facilitated a direct comparison of the estimated parameters. |
