Abstract: | Alcohol prohibition was one of the major events in American history in the 1920s and early 1930s. The goal of the thesis is to analyze the effect of the introduction of the alcohol prohibition in the United States in the 1920s on the development of public finances. Alcohol prohibition was one of the major events in American history in the 1920s and early 1930s. The thesis examines the reduction of tax revenues due to the introduction of prohibition and creates a prediction of lost tax revenues during prohibition. The thesis analyzes the ratio of lost tax revenues to total federal income. This analysis concludes that, especially after the Great Depression, this share was very significant and the possibility of additional taxation of alcohol was one of the most important reasons for abolishing alcohol prohibition. |
