Business Intelligence in MS SQL 2016 from the perspective of a beginning developer

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the 2016 version of Microsoft Business Intelligence tools and to introduce the possibilities of using these tools in the company from the perspective of a beginning developer. The thesis consists of two parts – theoretical and practical. The first part deals with the basics of Business Intelligence, that give insight into the issue, starting with a general overview of the nature of BI and related concepts and culminating in focusing on technologies that MS SQL 2016 provides for use in BI. The second part deals with practical introduction to the Microsoft tools. In this part, the reader is demonstrated the design and real implementation of a complete BI solution with the help of integration, analysis services and Power BI. The whole process includes stages from data description, data warehouse creation, all the way through data pump solutions and tabular modeling and finally report preparation in Power BI. After reading this work, the reader should get an idea of the possibilities of using Business Intelligence on the example of MS SQL Server products. The prerequisite for achieving the goal of the thesis is to obtain theoretical knowledge in Business Intelligence and data warehousing, its principles and architecture based on the study of accessible resources. The focus for data and information is academic literature and electronic information resources – academic articles and publications.
