| Abstract: | V diplomové práci se zabývám vztahem mezi rychlostními limity a nehodovostí v Evropě. Zaměřuji se na rychlostní limity, které jsou platné v obcích, mimo obec a na dálnicích. Hypotézou práce je tvrzení, že rychlostní limity mají vliv na nehodovost, kdy vyšší rychlostní limity způsobují vyšší nehodovost. K testování hypotézy jsou použita panelová data 33 evropských zemí v období od roku 1993 do roku 2017. V práci odhaduji dva modely pomocí metody náhodných efektů. Hypotézu se podařilo potvrdit pouze částečně, signifikantní vliv rychlostních limitů na nehodovost vyšel u rychlostních limitů v obci a mimo obec. Vliv rychlostních limitů na dálnicích na nehodovost se potvrdit nepodařilo. Další proměnné, které vyšly jako signifikantní jsou podíl lidí ve věku od 18-27 a 65 a více na celkové populaci země, výdaje na silniční infrastrukturu a průměrné stáří vozového parku zemi. |

| Abstract: | This diploma thesis examines the relationship between speed limits and accidents in Europe. I focus on speed limits that are valid in municipalities, rural speed limits, and speed limits on motorways. The hypothesis is that speed limits have an impact on accidents and higher speed limits cause higher accidents. To verify this hypothesis are used panel data from 33 European countries for the period from 1993 to 2017. I estimate two models using the random effect method. The hypothesis was only partially confirmed, significant influence of the speed limits on the accidents was founded for rural speed limits and speed limits valid in municipalities. The effect of motorway speed limits on accidents has not been confirmed. Other variables that are significant are the proportion of people aged 18-27 and over 65 over the country's total population, road infrastructure spending, and the average age of the country's fleet. |
