| Abstract: | Daná práce zkoumá vliv povolání rodičů a socioekonomického statusu na výběr studijního oboru dítěte. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda dané proměnné mohou ovlivnit lidský kapitál dítěte, a to jak u žen, tak u mužů. Jedním z hlavních přínosů práce je snaha zformulovat několik doporučení pro rodiče a ukázat jim, jaký mají vliv na budoucí pracovní kariéru svých dětí. Data byla získána pomocí dotazníku. Uplatněním multinomiální logistické regrese na data jsem zjistila, že pokud je pro studenta prioritou dobrý finanční stav, tak s větší pravděpodobností vybere ekonomický, zdravotnický či přírodovědný a inženýrský obor. Zároveň bylo zjištěno, že nejvíce prestižní obory jako ekonomie a přírodní vědy vybírají muži s velmi vysokým socioekonomickým statusem, přičemž vzdělávací obory obecně vybírají lidé s nízkým socioekonomickým statusem. Kromě toho bylo zjištěno, že efekt povolání matky je u mužů silnější než efekt povolání otce. |

| Abstract: | This study analyses the effect of parental occupation and socioeconomic status on choice of college major. The main objective was to understand if these variables can influence human capital of a child, women and men. One of the key contributions of this study is the effort to formulate some recommendations for parents and to show them their impact on the future career of their children. The data was obtained using a survey. Using the multinomial logit, it was found that if a student feels it is important for him to have a good financial status, he/she is more likely to choose Economics, Health, Natural Science or Engineering. At the same time, it was found that men with very high socioeconomic status selected the most lucrative fields such as Economics and Natural Sciences, while people with low socioeconomic status generally selected Education fields. In addition, it was found, that the effect of the mother's occupation is stronger than that of the father's occupation for men. |
