| Abstract: | Cílem této práce je popsat koncept města krátkých vzdáleností a otestovat jeho praktické využití formou případové studie na zvoleném urbanisticky různorodém území městské části Praha 14. Zjištěné odchylky jsou podkladem výsledných doporučení pro zkoumanou lokalitu, jejichž smyslem je snížení nutnosti dojíždění místních obyvatel a s tím spojených negativních externalit. Teoretická rešerše je uvedena problematikou definice měst a také přehledem jejich historického vývoje za účelem pochopení soudobého kontextu. Zvláštní důraz je rovněž kladen na význam měst pro člověka a společnost. Dále následuje již souhrn znalostí přímo souvisejících se zkoumaným konceptem. Podnětnou součástí práce je návrh univerzální metodiky pro analýzu stávajících sídel a jejich zhodnocení z pohledu města krátkých vzdáleností. V závěrečné diskuzi jsou kriticky zhodnocena úskalí akademické neukotvenosti a nedostatků konceptu. Přesto práce potvrzuje, že jde o směr k dosažení větší udržitelnosti měst, který je vhodné dále rozvíjet. |

| Abstract: | This thesis aims to describe the concept of the city of short distances and to examine its practical application using a case study in a selected Municipal District of Prague 14 with urbanistically diverse morphology. The observed deviations serve as a basis for recommendations for the discussed localities on how to reduce the need for residents to commute with related negative externalities. The theoretical research starts with the issue of the definition of the city and the review of its historical development to understand the contemporary context. The importance of cities for individuals and society is also emphasized. Next follows a literature review related to the examined concept summarising current knowledge. The incentive component of the thesis is a proposal of a universal methodology for the analysis of existing settlements and their evaluation from the perspective of the city of short distances. The pitfalls of the concept and the need for its better academic anchoring are critically assessed in the final discussion. Taken together, the thesis confirms that the city of short distances is a concept aiming towards urban sustainability and it should be developed further. |
