Quantitative survey of the state of use of agile approaches for software delivery in the Czech Republic

| Abstract: | Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na oblast využívání agilních přístupů pro dodávku softwaru. Hlavním cílem práce bylo provést kvantitativní průzkum stavu využívání agilních přístupů pro dodávku softwaru v České republice. Práce se opírá o primární data z vlastního dotazníkového šetření, které bylo provedeno formou online dotazníku, pomocí kterého se podařilo získat celkem 169 relevantních a kompletních odpovědí. Přínosem práce jsou zejména ucelené poznatky o stavu využívání agilních přístupů získané tímto průzkumem.V první části této diplomové práce jsou nastíněna teoretická východiska práce popisující jednotlivé součásti agilních přístupů. V druhé části je představen samotný návrh kvantitativního průzkumu ASDS-CZ. Zejména jsou pak dány výzkumné otázky, hypotézy a na ně navazující celková struktura dotazníku. Průzkum si kladl tyto tři cíle: (1) zhodnotit, jakým způsobem týmy vyvíjející software v České republice využívají agilní metodiky a praktiky, (2) zhodnotit, jak týmy vyvíjející software v České republice vnímají agilní metodiky a (3) zjistit, jaké praktiky jsou důležité pro týmy vyvíjející software v České republice. V rámci práce byl též celý průzkum realizován. Ve třetí části této práce jsou získané výsledky interpretovány.Výsledky ukazují, že v rámci České republiky je nejčastěji používána metodika Scrum a jí příbuzné metodiky. Bylo zjištěno, že agilní metodiky jsou týmy často přizpůsobovány využíváním různých praktik a jejich kombinováním. Tyto týmy také přisuzují agilním praktikám různou míru důležitosti. V rámci průzkumu se ukázalo, že některé jednoduché praktiky jsou sice často implementovány, avšak nejsou dle respondentů hodnoceny jako důležité. Naopak některé důležité, a v implementaci složité praktiky, nejsou využívány respondenty v dostatečné míře. Na druhou stranu respondenti hodnotí implementace agilních metodik v rámci českých týmů jako přínosné i přes určité nedostatky v rámci těchto implementací. |

| Abstract: | This thesis focuses on the field of using agile approaches for software delivery. The main aim of this paper was to carry out a quantitative survey of the state of use of agile approaches for software delivery in the Czech Republic. The paper is based on primary data from own survey, which was carried out in the form of an online questionnaire with which it was possible to obtain a total of 169 relevant and complete answers. The contribution of this paper lies in comprehensive knowledge of the state of use of agile approaches obtained by this survey.First part of this paper outlines the theoretical basis of the work, describing the individual components of agile approaches. In the second part the proposal of the ASDS-CZ quantitative survey is presented. In particular, the research questions, hypotheses and the overall structure of the questionnaire are given. The research aimed to: (1) evaluate how the software development teams in the Czech Republic use agile methods and practices, (2) to evaluate how software development teams in the Czech Republic perceive agile methods and (3) to identify what practices are important for the software development teams in the Czech Republic. The whole research project was also realized within the scope of the thesis. In the third part of this paper the results are interpreted.The results have shown that the Scrum and its derived methods are most commonly used in the Czech Republic. It has been found that the agile methods are often adapted by teams to use and combine different practices. These teams also attribute varying degree of importance to agile practices. The survey has shown that some simple practices are often implemented but they are not rated as important by respondents. On the contrary, there are some important and complex practices that are not used by respondents to a sufficient extent. On the other hand, the respondents evaluate the implementation of agile methods within Czech teams as beneficial despite some shortcomings in these implementations. |
