Economic and political development of South Korea between 1961-1990

This diploma thesis deals with the period of democratization of South Korea and authoritarian regimes. The first, theoretical part of the thesis deals with the definition and division of various authoritarian regimes. It explains the difference between authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. In the next part, the thesis deals with the marginal approach of the authoritarian regime to the power to subsequently, focused on the period of liberalization in which we can see the first signs of organizing political opposition. The second, practical part deals with the economic development of South Korea – it defines the economic and social status of the country after the Korean War, describes in detail the structural changes and development of South Korea in the period under review, monitors economic development in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors which had an impact on South Korean economic development. The main conclusions of the thesis include evidence that one of the greatest influences on the democratization of South Korea was the holding of the 1986 Asian Games and the Olympic Games in 1988 and that the government of South Korea had a major and decisive influence on the economic development of the country.
