Analysis of the relationship between corporate social responsibility and the economic efficiency of healthcare facilities

During the past several years, the relationship between corporate social responsibility and economic efficiency has been intensively studied. Furthermore, the concept of corporate social responsibility has spread to organisations where it had not been before and hadn’t been expected. That is why my thesis focuses on the aforementioned facts. The aim of this work is to map out the extent to which healthcare facilities in the Czech Republic actively participate in resolving the question of corporate social responsibility while also distinguishing between for-profit and non-profit organisations. Another objective of my work is to analyse the relationship between corporate social responsibility and the economic efficiency of these healthcare facilities. The theoretical part is dedicated to the concept of corporate social responsibility, through which it is possible to affect economic efficiency. The next chapter focuses on economic efficiency and the tools that are able to measure it. The conclusion to the theoretical part presents the current state of affairs regarding the healthcare system in the Czech Republic and its facilities, namely hospitals. The research showed that the majority of hospitals are not involved in the CSR concept but widely apply its principle activities, thus indirectly fulfilling it. It has also been observed that the concept implementation produced many benefits for these hospitals. These benefits are both in the form of financial and non-financial gains. The non-financial gains were above all the elimination of complications and errors, a decrease in the number of court cases, the increased satisfaction of patients and employees, maintaining turnover on an acceptable level and creating a positive image in the media.
