The Impact of Postcolonial Relations on EU Customs Policy Towards ACP Countries

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the impact of diplomatic relations after colonial system breakup on the EU customs policy towards ACP countries and its impact on banana imports from ACP countries and Latin America. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the European Customs Union, its essence, its importance and how it has been evolving so far. The second chapter deals with EU’s external relations with ACP countries. It describes the development of cooperation between both groups of countries and analyses trade relations and EU’s foreign policy towards those countries. It evaluates EU’s diplomatic relations with ACP countries and compares them with other groups of developing countries. In the third chapter, the relations between EU and Latin America and development of their cooperation are described more detailed. The last chapter is devoted to international banana market. It deals with the dispute between EU and WTO, briefly describes its process and devotes to consequences of the dispute on EU’s customs policy and on the bananas trade between European Union, ACP group and Latin America.
