| Abstract: | Ekonomický rozvoj je obvykle doprovázen strukturální transformací ekonomiky. Jedná se o přesun pracovní síly ze sektorů s nižší přidanou hodnotou do sektorů s vyšší přidanou hodnotou. Země Subsaharské Afriky však trpí strukturálním deficitem, tj. absencí těchto strukturálních změn. Tento region je stále charakteristický vysokým podílem zemědělství na HDP a slabým sektorem průmyslu. Jihoafrická republika se však v mnoha ohledech vymyká běžným vzorcům Subsaharské Afriky a za posledních několik desítek let si prošla zásadními změnami, které vedly, mimo jiné, ke změně kompozice jejího HDP. V současnosti je Jihoafrická republika považována za nejdiverzifikovanější a nejvíce industrializovanou zemi afrického kontinentu. Je otázkou, zda za svůj relativní úspěch v rámci regionu vděčí silným strukturálním reformám. Tato práce bude tedy mapovat strukturální vývoj jihoafrické ekonomiky od vyhlášení nezávislé Jihoafrické republiky v roce 1961 po současnost. |

| Abstract: | Economic development is often accompanied by structural transformation of economy. Structural transformation is defined as movement of labour from low-productivity sectors to high-productivity sectors. Sub-Saharan Africa has been facing structural deficit, meaning it lacks such movements. The region still suffers from high shares of agriculture in GDP and negligible shares of industrial sector. However, South Africa is outperforming Sub-Saharan African peers in many ways. The country has undergone many changes over the past few decades that have had an impact on the sectoral composition of the South African GDP. As a regional manufacturing hub, South Africa is the most industrialized and diversified economy in Africa. It raises the question whether this success within the region has owed much to good structural policies. The thesis therefore examines South African structural transformation process in the period from 1961, when the country achieved independence, to the present. |
