Abstract: | This thesis examines how heuristics and cognitive biases influence financial decision making by using an online experiment that divided respondents into 3 groups: control, low, high. The online experiment tracked how education, cognitive reflection test, and gender influences propensity to these cognitive biases. Out of 325 respondents, 47 % correctly answered all 3 questions in cognitive reflection test. Anchoring has been shown statistically significant on 5 % significance level with on average 40 % increase of the value in the high group in comparison to the control group and with on average 65 % decrease of the value in the low group in comparison to the control group. Hypothesis about males having higher propensity to cognitive biases has been rejected on this group of respondents. Despite students or alumni of universities with an economical background achieved lower scores in cognitive reflection test, they were not more cognitively biased. |
