Abstract:

Abstract:
The final thesis deals with the utility of joining the euro area for selected post-communist countries. The utility is analyzed using regression models on panel data (1999–2018) with a dependent variable GDP per capita growth in the purchasing power standard relative to the EU27 average. This dependent variable is modeled mainly using macroeconomic explanatory variables, which are also related to the EU average. The comparative model is built using unrelated variables. The models are constructed based on economic theories, most of which space is devoted to the theory of optimum currency areas. In the case of both models, a statistically significant negative effect of euro area membership on the dependent variable was demonstrated. In the years associated with joining the euro area, the dependent variable is expected to decline by 1-3 percentage points. Finally, predictive linear regression models for the Czech Republic are created based on the development of similar countries that joined the euro area.
