Abstract: | The objective of this thesis is to evaluate what impacts would widespread electrification of road transportation have on the Czech Republic. It focuses firstly on finding the impacted areas by exploring the e-mobility trend. Four main areas of impact are identified to be: charging infrastructure requirements, electrical grid and supply demands, environmental impact, and taxation implications. It is found that the electrification would require an extensive charging infrastructure network of some 100 000 charging points and strengthening the electricity distribution to accommodate the increased power demand. For the environmental impact, it is found that electrification would lead to a considerable decrease of emission levels caused by car transportation. Finally, for the tax revenue, it is found that electrification would cause a significant decrease in tax revenue, mainly due to electricity not being subject to an excise tax. Finally, it is found that the first three impacts are considered in Czech strategic documents and steps to meet the demands are being taken. However, the tax revenue decrease is not addressed. Therefore, it is advised that this is included in the discussions on the topic in the near future. |
