Systemically important banks and their regulation

This thesis deals with the regulation of banks that are systemically important, i.e. their sudden failure or termination could have catastrophic consequences in terms of causing distortions of the economic situation or even resulting in a financial crisis. The first part of the thesis describes the macro-prudential policy and the reasons for establishing the regulation of banks and financial institutions within the European Union and the rules of capital adequacy management. The second part focuses on the implementation of these rules after the global financial crisis in the Czech Republic, European Union and the U.S. and their gradual adjustments, including related macroeconomic impacts.
