Specificities of suitable ERP system for law firms

The goal of this thesis is to provide thorough list of functionalities that would be included in ERP system that would provide increase in efficiency in operations of law firms in the Czech Republic. In order to successfully reach the goal of this thesis, general process analysis in hosting law firm was performed, which helped to identify what would be subject of usage before possible implementation of ERP system for attorneys. As the objective of this thesis is to present “optimal” ERP systems for law firms in general, gathered knowledge was confirmed by field questionnaire which helped to shape the needs of firms in general. Also, market analysis of currently offered software was executed for final confirmation of identified processes and additionally provide overview of current possibilities on both ERP and PSA products on the market. Notably, certain own initiative is expected from readers of this thesis if being law firm that intends to implement such ERP system as data statistics or concrete types of waste (defined by Lean) need to be identified in order to successfully implement the system with other benefits than digitization or digitalization. First part of the thesis is dedicated to underlying definitions of phenomenon, description of ERP evolvement and listing of regulatory and normative requirements for the system. Second part defines framework of the practical part, such as used modeling methodology, objectives of digitalization and current trends in IT. Lastly, key processes in law firm are identified, after which alignment of identified processes and processes in other law firms was done by field questionnaire. After the comparison market analysis was performed and RFP for optimal ERP solution was created.
