Economic Analysis of Hospitals with Acute Inpatient Care between 2008-2018 in Cities with Less than 15,000 Inhabitants

Recently, hospitals have been mentioned very often in connection with poor economy and large debts. Is that really so? This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of hospitals providing acute inpatient care in cities with up to fifteen thousand inhabitants. For these hospitals, using the created model, their point evaluation is calculated, based on which they are further compared not only among themselves, but also within three groups, into which they are divided according to the subject that is their founder. Part of the work is to examine the hypothesis that the founder of the hospital cannot achieve long-term significant and stable economic profit. According to the author, these low profits effect the involvement of the private sector among hospital founders, which is at a very low level in comparison with other areas of business. Furthermore, the work pays special attention to the Lužická hospital and polyclinic in Rumburk, which ended up in 2019 in insolvency due to its poor results. It is clear from the results of the work that a quarter of hospitals achieved significant economic gains throughout the period. Based on these results, the mentioned hypothesis is clearly rejected. In conclusion, the work evaluates the results of individual groups of hospitals according to their founders and, based on their comparison, states which of the groups are most suitable for the management of hospitals in the long run.
