Analysis of Selected Impacts of US Federal Government Policy on Native Americans´s Poverty During the 1970s and 1980s

The diploma thesis focuses on the issue of the US federal government policy of self-determination towards Native Americans during the 1970s and 1980s. The aim is to critically evaluate selected socio-economic impacts of self-determination policy and to find out whether, as a result of this policy, the poverty rate of Native Americans has been reduced in the long term. The theoretical part first characterizes the US federal government assimilation policy of termination during the 1940s and 1960s. Subsequently, the end of assimilation policy and the emergence of a completely antagonistic federal self-determination policy towards Native Americans is described. The conclusion of the theoretical part summarizes the status of key indicators at the beginning of the monitored period in the years 1969–1989. The practical part analyzes the results of federal policy of self-determination and summarizes the status of key indicators during the monitored period. Subsequently, these data are compared by the comparison method with the default values of the indicators before the federal self-determination policy began. Based on a comparison of available data, the obtained data are synthesized and the hypothesis: the US federal government policy of self-determination during the 1970s led to a consequent long-term decline of Native Americans poverty, is falsified. All available data refutes the hypothesis.
