The main goal of the cohesion policy is to reduce the differences between regional development levels, which is important especially for former socialist countries such as the Czech Republic. This diploma thesis aims to answer the research question, whether the cohesion policy has positively influenced the development of regional disparities since the 1990s up today. To answer this question comprehensively, the thesis has been divided into four parts. The first part deals with the theoretical aspects of regional development and disparities and the second with the cohesion policy and its mutual relationship with the Czech Republic. The third, using the method of monitoring of interregional differences and four indicators, evaluates the regional differentiation in the Czech Republic. The fourth, based on the variability indicator, determines convergence tendencies among Czech regions. The result of the thesis shows that although the economic disparities has had between 1995 and 2018 a growing trend, the effect of the cohesion policy is under certain assumptions neutral to positive. |
