| Abstract: | Tato diplomová práce se zabývá nastavením současných bilaterálních vztahů USA a Jižní Koreje v období prezidentského mandátu Baracka Obamy a Pak Kunhje mezi lety 2013–2016. Cílem práce je ukázat, jak ideje, identity a diskurz formují tyto vztahy. Metodou kritické diskurzivní analýzy bylo zjištěno, že mezi USA a Jižní Koreou se stále projevuje vztah podřízenosti a nadřízenosti, avšak v pozdější fázi mandátu prezidentů docházelo k výraznějším změnám diskurzu a Korea se emancipovala. Dále bylo prokázáno, že v politicko-bezpečnostní dimenzi stále převažuje dominantní diskurz ze strany USA a submisivní pozice Koreje, nicméně v ekonomické dimenzi a na úrovni globální spolupráce je vztah symetričtější. |

| Abstract: | This thesis deals with contemporary bilateral US–South Korea relations during the presidencies of Barack Obama and Park Geun-hye (2013–2016 period). The aim of the thesis is to observe how ideas, identities and discourse shape US–ROK relations. Critical discourse analysis (the main methodological approach) demonstrated that the United States and South Korea still base their relationship on the dominance-submission asymmetry. However, in the last years of both presidencies, the discourse of both presidents and their administrations changed and Korea started to emancipate. The analysis also showed that the prevailing discursive positions in the dimension of politics and security were those of American dominance and Korean submission. By contrast, the relationship became more symmetrical in the economic and global cooperation dimension. |
