US role in international environmental regimes

| Abstract: | Cílem diplomové práce je určit vztah mezi efektivitou mezinárodních environmentálních režimů a účastí Spojených států amerických, přičemž v souladu se stanovenými kritérii a v rámci sledovaných případů režimů práce zkoumá, zda účast USA vede k větší efektivitě těchto režimů. Úvodní kapitola se po exkurzi do teorie režimů zabývá specifiky teorie mezinárodních environmentálních režimů a představuje aplikované metodologické východisko práce. Další dvě kapitoly jsou věnovány vyhodnocení efektivity jednotlivých režimů s účastí, respektive bez účasti USA. Závěrečná kapitola na základě porovnání obou skupin režimů zhodnocuje roli Spojených států. Tento vztah se práci skutečně podařilo objevit. Dospěla závěru, že případy režimů disponující účastí USA jsou v průměru efektivnější o téměř 78 %. |

| Abstract: | The objective of this diploma thesis is to establish a relationship between the effectiveness of international environmental regimes and the membership of the United States of America, while in accordance with the given criteria and the selected cases of regimes, the thesis investigates whether the membership of the USA leads to higher effectiveness of these regimes. After an excursion to regime theory, the opening chapter deals with the international environmental regimes theory particularities and presents the applied methodological approach. The next two chapters are concerned with the assessment of the effectiveness of the individual regimes with and without the US membership. The concluding chapter compares both groups of regimes and then evaluates the role of the US based on this comparison. The thesis succeeded in finding such a relationship; indeed, the effectiveness of the selected regime cases with the US membership was found to be higher by almost 78%, on average. |
